67 minutes for Mandela

The Team from Fry’s together with Miss Earth South Africa and Future Leaders of Climate Change got together to clean Amanzimtoti beach last week in honour of the late Nelson Mandela. As part of Mandela Day, an International Day launched in recognition of his Birthday, which seeks to inspire the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s injustices.

Nearly 100 volunteers from KwaMakhutha township, Charles James Hospital and eThekwini municipality took part and gave up well over 67 minutes to clean up the beach which was littered with glass, plastic and paper. All the rubbish was then taken away by the municipality for proper disposal. All the participants were given a talk by FLCC and Meat Free Mondays South Africa about the importance of maintaining our environment and what part diet plays in the destruction of our planet.

The day was capped off with veggie hot dogs and cooldrinks! Head to our Facebook for more pictures.

We would like to thank all those who partook in the event for making it such a success.
